Fusible Fleece - your secret weapon for soft and sturdy projects !
If you've ever wished your sewing projects had just a little more oomph—more structure, more softness, more squish—then let me introduce you to the magic that is fusible fleece! Whether you're crafting bags, quilts, or cozy home decor, this handy material is about to become your new best friend.
Fusible fleece is a lightweight, soft batting with an adhesive on one side that allows it to fuse to fabric when pressed with heat. It adds both cushioning and a slight structure, making it a favorite among sewists who love extra loft without the hassle of basting or pinning multiple layers.
It’s typically made from polyester or a polyester-cotton blend and is commonly used in bag making, quilting, table runners, and garment construction where a little extra body is needed.
Why Use Fusible Fleece?
Why should you reach for fusible fleece instead of traditional batting or interfacing? Here’s what makes it sew special:
✔ Adds Structure Without Bulk – Perfect for soft yet structured projects like tote bags and pouches.
✔ No Shifting, No Basting! – The fusible side adheres to fabric, eliminating the need for excessive pinning or basting stitches.
✔ Provides a Cushiony Feel – Great for making quilts extra cozy and giving bags a plush finish.
✔ Prevents Wrinkling – Helps stabilize fabric for a more polished look.
How to Use Fusible Fleece
Using fusible fleece is as easy as 1-2-3! Here’s how:
1️⃣ Cut your fusible fleece slightly smaller than your fabric piece to avoid bulk in seam allowances.
2️⃣ Fuse by placing the adhesive side against the wrong side of your fabric. Use a damp pressing cloth and press with an iron on medium heat (no steam) for about 10-15 seconds.
3️⃣ Sew your project as usual, enjoying the extra stability and plushness!
Pro Tip: Avoid moving your iron back and forth too much while fusing—it’s best to press and lift to prevent shifting.
